Guild Charter
Mercedis Legion Guild Charter
Who is Mercedis Legion?

We are a group of gamers who have come from various other games together to form a guild that provides what all of us are looking for out of a game. The focus is on friendship and a "family" atmosphere, not as in "family friendly" but as in that we are like one big family.

We do not focus on any one single aspect of the game, but are a general light RP guild. We do hunts, events, PvP, roleplay, and basically are about enjoying every thing we can from a game. We do not require anyone to participate in all things, as we each have our own preferences.

While we have a strict leadership structure, we also are very flexible in other regards by not having set guild meetings or other mandatory events. The leadership is merely there to make the decisions necessary in running a guild, and everyone will be able to voice their opinions through the guild forums. Please take note, however, that this does not guarantee that you will always get what you want. Decisions will be made based on what is best for the guild, not just for individual members, and so there will always be those who get what they want, and those who don't.

The guild itself is based upon the premise of a group of mercenaries formed under the structure of a Roman legion. The background story will be posted in the Tavern forum, and will set the stage for the roleplay of the guild. No requirements of race or class will be made for membership, as we will accept all those who conform to our values into our ranks.

Guild Structure and Ranks

The Mercedis Legion will be lead by a single Imperator, and assisted by a Praetorian Council of Praetors that are appointed to the position. This will be the leadership of the guild and is set up to allow for decisions to be made in the easiest manner, as well as spread out the responsibilities of running the guild.

This structure is in place not to show favoritism, but rather as to give the guild some order and also allow for decisions to be made easily and quickly. While the leaders should be respected, so should all members regardless of their position or rank. All members will be allowed to voice their opinions on matters if possible, but the leadership will make and enforce decisions based upon what is best for the guild.

The ranks of membership from top to bottom will be as follows:

Praetorian Council
Imperator
Praetor

Legionnaire Ranks
Centurion
Optio
Principale
Immune
Discen
Milite
Tirone

New members will join Mercedis Legion as a Tirone, which is a recruit. They will serve in that position for a minimum of two weeks active membership, and then be eligible for promotion to Milite upon the review of their Centurion and the Legate.

Milites are the basic soldier and backbone of the Legion. They must serve for a minimum of one month in that position, at which time they will be eligible for promotion.

Discens are more advanced soldiers who have proven themselves over time. They will become eligible for promotion after having spent an additional two months at Discen.

Immunes are veteran soldiers who have shown mastery on the field and off. After at least two months active membership in the Legion as an Immune, one may be promoted to Principale.

Members may earn the rank of Optio after having served as a Principale for three more months, and then Centurion after three additional months as an Optio.

Rising through the ranks takes quite awhile, and it is meant to be that way. Nobody should simply expect to be given a promotion for anything other than the amount of active time that they have spent with the guild, and those with the highest ranks can be honored as having served with the guild for a long period of time.

All promotions are at the discretion of a review by the Praetorian Council. They are meant to show active membership in the guild, and more as a function of roleplay than true authority.

The ranks will not be determined by any other means, such as in game level. All new members will come in as recruits and work their way up regardless if they are brand new or the highest level. Promotions will likewise not be determined by level, but only by actual activity.

Guild meetings will be held at least once a month, where promotions and other recognitions may be given amongst the Mercedis Legion membership. Meetings will be roleplayed, and attendance is highly recommended, though not mandatory.

The game of Vanguard also has in-game ranks as part of the guild structure. They will be used with the guild ranks as follows:

Leader - Imperator
Officer - Praetor
Elder Member - Centurion, Optio, Principale
Member - Immune, Discen, Milite
Initiate - Tirone

Rules of Membership

The rules of membership are very simple.

1. Respect. Show respect to your guildmates, and other players in the game. Just because we roleplay ourselves as mercenaries does not mean you can be a jerk to everyone.
2. Maturity. While it's difficult to have age restrictions for membership, we do require that you act maturely no matter if you are 5 or 100. We are mainly older adults, age 30+, so we expect our members to act in a like manner. Conversations on the forums and in guildchat can also sometimes be not rated for younger ears, so please keep this in mind.
3. Help your guildmates. We may not have any specific requirements such as dues, but we expect you to help your fellow guildmates as they will help you, in whatever ways you are able to.
4. Follow the ToS. When you play the game you sign a contract that includes rules regarding in game conduct. We expect our members to follow those rules, and to not cheat or use any banned programs.
5. Have fun! We're all here to play a game, whether it's to relax for a bit, get some frustrations out by killing some monsters, or just to escape from the real world. It's all about having fun. So enjoy the game, and help your fellow players to enjoy the game as well.
